James Zipperer: Head Coach
Credentials: CrossFit level 1 cert. After James’ five year enlistment in the Marine Corps he was encouraged by his wife to start learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is currently a Purple Belt under Jeff Messina. A year into training he was motivated by Jeff and Charles to try CrossFit to compliment his BJJ. His previous ten year involvement in fitness and background in gymnastics made the transition into CrossFit a seamless one. He is also actively pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at the University of Houston.
Pam Rosario
Credentials: crossfit lvl one cert. Pam was first introduced to CrossFit by her husband while he was deployed to Iraq in 2008. While Carlos was very excited about this intense regimen, Pam was less than enthused. It was far too advanced and intimidating for her level of fitness, or so she thought. Pam has played competitive golf since she was 9 but never performed as a high level athlete. She quickly learned and embraced the necessary modifications to push herself to transform her body and performance. Now, Pam even competes in local CrossFit challenges, enjoys running, jiu jitsu and anything else she could have never imagined doing as an overweight, inactive, unmotivated kid, teen or adult. CrossFit has also taught Pam and her family the importance of proper diet and nutrition. Outside of the gym she enjoys cooking (actually, eating!) and discovering new recipes and techniques to share the Paleo diet with her husband, 3 kids and the close knit NHB family.
Credentials: CrossFit level 1 cert. Iulian is a software engineer, holding a M.Sc. in theoretical physics from the University of Bucharest. After spending most of the 15 years of his professional career sitting on a chair in front of a computer, at the end of 2009 he discovered CrossFit. While the down-to-earth, consistent scientific approach to fitness and to the movement of the human body resonated with his education background, the intense passion and profoundly human spirit of the CrossFit community changed him forever. He considers himself lucky to share this passion with his wife Carmen. Iulian likes to help others becoming fitter, while steadily walking the same path himself.
Laura Childs
Credentials: CrossFit Level 1, U.S. Army Level 1 Combatives Instructor. Laura recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan with the Texas Army National Guard. Understanding the great benefit of strength, agility, and endurance that CrossFit can offer for those in a combat zone, the leadership of her unit established an affiliate www.coyotecrossfitghazni.com in order to train Soldiers from all units on their Forward Operating Base. Laura was coached by the best, trained with the best, and was able to assist with the programming and coaching. This began her passion for teaching and coaching others in CrossFit. On the civilian side, Laura has spent the past 18 years as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant working in sports medicine, home health, and acute care settings. Combining both careers gives her a clear understanding of the importance of ensuring safe body mechanics performed consistently before progressing to intensity. She is a life-long Katy resident and lives in Old Katy with her husband, Craig, and their three children, Ashley, Alex, and Case.
Tony Mesa
Credentials: Crossfit Level 1. Tony is a 5 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a Fire Fighter with the Houston Fire Dept. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Fire Engineering from the University of Houston and certifications in Rescue and Aircraft Rescue. In his twenties, Tony competed in body building and because of his experience with the USMC was always in great shape. Then came marriage, kids and too much work. Despite periodic attempts to stay in shape at the YMCA or meat-market type gyms, he found himself becoming fat and sloppy. By the time he was 42 years old, he was 251lbs and knew he needed a change. At the same time Tony started at NHB, he also began training jujitsu under Jeff Messina at Revolution with his 3 small boys and now competes in jujitsu tournaments. His wife and older kids are also now addicted to Crossfit and it is becoming a family tradition.
Credentials: CrossFit level 1 cert. BS in education with a minor in science. Being a mother, Vanessa’s primary interest is working with both pre- and post-natal women. Pregnancy is a natural event for which our bodies are designed. With proper nutrition and fitness through out all phases of pregnancy, a woman can prepare herself and her child for an easier birth and faster recovery. Having led an active lifestyle (more or less), she never considered herself an athlete until CrossFit. Right after hiking 1600 miles of the Appalachian Trail, her husband, Charles, led her through her first CrossFit workout: wall balls, lunges and thrusters. Vanessa was humbled and vowed never to workout with him again. Needless to say, she is now a CrossFitter for life and has placed in a number of 5K runs throughout the Katy area.
In training others throughout various places in the country and world, we gained the knowledge and skill necessary to lead others in developing the discipline needed to achieve peak physical conditioning. This, coupled with CrossFit’s constantly varied workouts, that use functional movements at high intensities, enables us to create an atmosphere that will help you reach your maximum potential.
